Ab Workout Information – The Basics
The sexy six pack…something many work hard to achieve and for others it is simply a dream…or so they think.
Besides the fact that firm and tight abs are super sexy they also do a lot for the body's overall health. Breathing is easier when abdominal muscles are in shape and those who have a tone and slender stomach also generally have a better overall feeling of good health with more stamina, energy, and strength. People that have stronger and firmer trunk muscles also have less back problems and neck strain as well.
One problem that many people seem to have when attempting to achieve a tone stomach is that while working on the abs they fail to work on all of the muscles. In fact there are six particular muscles that make up the abdominal area and all have to be worked on with equal attention. These muscles begin in the rib area and extend down to the pelvis. Let's examine all six muscles and see what their function is.
First, the internal obliques, which are the muscles that are on either side of the torso. These two muscles are responsible for movement and support, they rotate the spine, and are key players in the lateral flexation of the spine. The external obliques are basically in the same location as the internal obliques and they hold equal responsibility for the spine and lateral flexation.
The rectus abdomius is also part of the formal group of abdominal muscles. These are the muscles that will or will not give you those sexy six pack abs. These muscles are the outermost muscles in the group. The transverse abdominus muscles are very important muscles in the group. These muscles completely surround the torso, offering much support and determine the posture of a person. Because of the way that these muscles are positioned and also the way that people have a tendency to work out, the abs do not always respond the way that one would like.
For some the abs simply look magnificent and others can work even harder and still not render what they are seeking. The problem is likely that the group of muscles, as a whole, are not being worked correctly. Over a period of time the intensity of the workout must increase, the right muscles must be exercised, and even more importantly, the right exercises must be performed.
The truth is that most exercises can be incorporated into an abdominal exercise as long as the ab muscles are tightened while doing it. Basically, this means that you should tighten those abs even when you are doing exercises that you might not think are part of your abdominal workout. The kind of fancy equipment that you use is never as important as which abs you target, how you target them, and the increase and intensity that you put forward each day and with each workout. It is well worth the effort because these great abs will make you feel better about yourself and your appearance as well as improving your overall health.
